What we do

Located just 6 degrees south of the equator, in the steamy Amazon River basin, sits Yurimaguas, Peru, surrounded by rivers on 3 sides.   This port town is literally at the end of the paved road and travel beyond Yurimaguas is done mostly by river or on foot.

We live here in our mission's children's home.  While the children's home is overseen by one of our teammates and we don't have daily responsibilities, we're involved in many activities with the kids.

Our primary ministry is to with the Shawi, an indigenous people group that live in villages outside of Yurimaguas.  The Shawi received the NT in their language in the 1970s and our coworker has been working among them for 20 years.  It is an honor for us to work alongside our Shawi brothers and sisters who have dedicated their lives to sharing the Gospel with their people.  Josh manages the Shawi Discipleship Center, where we host Biblical trainings for Shawi pastors and new believers.  We also host other events for the church including youth camps and weddings.

Josh also spends quite a bit of time traveling to visit disciples in their villages and preach the word.   In addition, we equip Shawi pastors to travel to evangelize by offering assistance with boat motors, fuel, and training resources.  Our vision is to see a self-sustaining, self-replicating, self-supporting Shawi church with leaders grounded in kingdom principles.

Our mission is to advocate for our Shawi brothers and sisters while providing access to a transformational gospel for the maturation of the Shawi church.  While advocacy has many different components, we primarily focus on accessibility to scripture, assistance with medical care, and community development projects.
